Good to know
- Important: this draws a white box over the content. The text underneath may still be in the file and could be selected or copied. Do not rely on it to hide sensitive information such as ID numbers or account details.
- It assumes a plain white background. On coloured areas the box will show as a white patch.
Questions and answers
Is this true redaction?
No. It covers content visually. Hidden text can remain in the file, so do not use it for confidential data that must not be recoverable.
How can I check what is still in the file?
Open the result, select all text with Ctrl+A and paste it into a notepad to see what remains.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. It covers the area on the page image.
Privacy
This tool runs inside your browser. Your file is read into your device’s memory, processed there and handed back as a download. It is not sent to a FirePDF server. You can test this by switching off your internet connection after the page has loaded and running the tool again. Read the Privacy Policy and the Security page for details.
